Humanities Faculty Leadership Fellowship

ALP Seminar II UofI 2026_2

The Big Ten Academic Alliance Humanities Faculty Leadership Fellowship is a collaborative initiative among twelve Big Ten Academic Alliance member universities. The program is designed to increase the representation of humanities faculty in existing leadership development programs and strengthen the leadership skills of those already participating.

This comprehensive two-year fellowship supports professional growth through structured training, peer engagement, and hands-on leadership experience.

Year 1

Leadership Foundations

Fellows engage in a series of developmental activities, including:

  • Participation in the Academic Leadership Program (ALP), which features three intensive, three-day seminars held on rotating campuses;
  • A dedicated half-day seminar focused on topics specifically relevant to humanities faculty and the administration of humanities programs;
  • Monthly virtual meetings with a HFLFellows affinity group drawn from the ALP cohort, fostering community and peer mentorship.

Year 2

Campus-Based Leadership Experience

Fellows deepen their leadership experience by:

  • Completing an administrative or academic fellowship in a central university office, typically the Office of the Provost or a comparable leadership unit;
  • Continuing to participate in monthly Zoom meetings, maintaining connection and receiving support throughout the second year.
