The Identity and Access Management Group, supported by the Chief Information Officers, are national leaders in developing trust frameworks and underlying technology that ensures the identities of member institution faculty, staff, and students. Their work provides best practices and guidance in areas like federated authentication and provisioning. Federated authentication technology allows individuals to use their campus identification and password to log in to secured resources across the spectrum of the Big Ten Academic Alliance, research organizations, and many other valuable academic and scientific networks. Well-designed federated authorization must be built on well-designed data from an individual’s home institution, which requires the institution having efficient and accurate identity and resource provisioning. The guides produced by this group can help IAM teams from institutions both inside and outside of the Big Ten Academic Alliance to support their campuses with strong systems and processes based on recognized best practices.
