The Committee on Institutional Cooperation is pleased announce that the CIC Summer Research Opportunity Program (SROP) will be accepting applications November 1, 2012 – February 10, 2013.

With 26 years of collaboration, the CIC Summer Research Opportunities Program has set the standard for summer research experiences across the nation.  Offering a competitive program on par with the world-class research happening across CIC universities, CIC SROP participants engage in a rigorous experience designed to help historically under-represented students explore opportunities for graduate study and academic careers. In conducting research at this level and by working with a faculty mentor, participants begin to develop the kind of student/professor relationship that is crucial to success in graduate school.

The program is conducted over a period of nine or ten weeks during the summer at participating CIC institutions. In addition to research, SROP participants engage in workshops focused on research skills and seminars on topics related to graduate education and career development. At the end of the summer program, participants present their research at a campus symposium.

This is a highly competitive opportunity for students to study with many of the best researchers in their fields. CIC universities are research powerhouses that confer almost 15% of total doctoral degrees, 17% of engineering Ph.D. degrees, and over 15% of the agricultural Ph.D. degrees granted in the U.S. each year.
