The challenge of stewarding legacy print collections in the digitization era will be the center of discussion at the upcoming CIC Center for Library Initiatives Conference "What's In Store? Collaborative Strategies for Managing CIC Print Collections."
The conference will take place on May 23-24 at the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center at Michigan State University.
Conference speakers and participants will consider such topics as preservation and access strategies for stored materials; organizational governance of shared collections; management of research collections in the future; systems for recording storage commitment; and infrastructure for curating digital collections
"The conference will examine current approaches to shared print storage for serials that draw on successful regional models, as well as planning efforts to create a national framework for print monograph collections," said Kim Armstrong, CLI Deputy Director. "These programs will be highlighted along with the CIC's own plan for shared print storage."
The scheduled speakers include (but are not limited to) Kim A. Wilcox, Provost of Michigan State University; John P. Wilkin, Executive Director of HathiTrust; Paul Courant, University Librarian and Dean of Libraries at the University of Michigan; and Barbara McFadden Allen, CIC Director.
