University of Minnesota Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Thomas Sullivan was interviewed and quoted by a recent Omaha World-Herald article about the academic benefits of being a member of the Committee on Institutional Cooperation, the consortium of the Big Ten Conference members and the University of Chicago. The story mentioned several CIC initiatives, including the CIC's mass digitization efforts of library materials and its CourseShare program, where courses are shared between member universities via videoconferencing technology.
Sullivan told the World-Herald, “It’s great to play on Saturday, but all
the rest of the time we’re working on curriculum, research,
infrastructure. It’s much broader than the sports we see on TV.”
The article appeared online and in the paper's June 9 edition.
The reporter also interviewed CIC director Barbara McFadden Allen, who told the Omaha World-Herald that the CIC makes it easier for doctoral
students and university researchers to
partner and bring in "some of the gigantic federal grants that
every university wants."
