BIG Collection: Resource Access Policy Harmonization Report

The Resource Access Policy Harmonization pilot team is pleased to share their final report. Aspirational in nature, the report includes the new BTAA Resource Sharing Agreement plus Scanning Standards; reaffirms the Principles and Protocols for Sharing Special Collections within the Big Ten; and articulates important next steps for future pilot projects and working group investigations.

BTAA Announces Collective Action Agreement with arXiv

The fifteen world-class research libraries of the Big Ten Academic Alliance have agreed to support arXiv, a community-supported resource administered by Cornell University, at the champion level for the next three years. arXiv is an open access research-sharing platform that currently hosts more than two million scholarly articles in eight major fields, including physics, mathematics, and computer science. Beyond content curation and preservation, arXiv provides researchers with a variety of services including the submission of articles, compilation, production, retrieval, search and discovery, web distribution for human readers, and API access for machines.

Maurice York, Director, Library Initiatives at the Big Ten Academic Alliance stated, “We are delighted to be able to strengthen academic infrastructure by supporting the good work of arXiv by making a multi-year commitment at the highest level. We view this move as an integral part of continuing to build toward an open scholarly ecosystem and advance the goals of the BTAA Big Collection."

“We are pleased that the Big Ten Academic Alliance will continue its long-standing commitment to open science, with its pledge to a continued multi-year agreement to Champion arXiv’s ongoing service to the academic community, distributing cutting-edge research results, free to submit and free to read,” said Steinn Sigurdsson, arXiv Scientific Director and Professor of Astronomy and Astrophysics at Penn State University.
