The Big Ten Academic Alliance Library Initiatives focus on three objectives--optimizing student and faculty access to the combined resources of our libraries; maximizing cost, time, and space savings; and supporting a collaborative environment where library staff can work together to solve their mutual problems.

Detroit radio station WWJ Newsradio 950 reported on the HathiTrust's launch of a new catalog search that delivers nearly 3 million full-text records through an Internet browser.

HathiTrust, a shared digital repository, was conceived as a collaboration of the Committee on Institutional Cooperation and the University of California system to establish a repository for these universities to archive and share their digitized collections.

"The unprecedented admission for the public to examine archives at the most prominent research libraries is an ongoing effort for HathiTrust to build a digital archive of library materials converted from print, co-owned and managed by participating academic institutions," the station wrote in its May 11 Great Lakes IT report.
