A longtime leader in the CIC's efforts to keep government documents in the hands of the public has received a major honor for her work.
Lou Malcomb, head of the Government Information and Kent Cooper Services Department in IU's Herman B Wells Library, was recently named the recipient of the 2011 "Documents to the People" Award, presented by LexisNexis/Government Documents Round Table/American Library Association.
"We are delighted that Lou is being recognized for her outstanding work in the Documents community. She has a long history of leadership among her CIC peers and nationally," said Kim Armstrong, Deputy Director of the CIC's Center for Library Initiatives. "Her current work on the CIC/Google government documents project demonstrates Lou's dedication to making government information as widely available as possible."
Malcomb led the CIC Floppy Disk Project -- launched in 1999 -- which was one of the first attempts to preserve federal depository materials in digital format. She is also one of the librarians who staffs the CIC's free, Web-based Government Information Online service.
She is being honored with this year's award for her "commitment, creativity and dedication to the principles embodied in the phrase 'Documents to the People,'" the organization wrote in a statement.
