All 12 CIC member universities were ranked in the top 160 of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings released Thursday, demonstrating their excellence not only nationally, but globally.
No CIC university ranked lower than 156. University of Chicago (12), University of Michigan (15) and Northwestern University (25) led the way.
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings changed its methodology for this year's rankings. Teaching, research, and citation impact had the most weight.
CIC universities were featured prominently in other recent ranking reports:
- Six CIC universities were included in the Wall Street Journal's recent report on the Top 25 schools whose graduates were the top-rated by recruiters. Four of those universities were in the top six, with Pennsylvania State University at No. 1; University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign at No. 3; Purdue University at No. 4; and University of Michigan at No. 6.
- CIC university communities fared well in the annual College Destinations Index (CDI), a quantitative ranking of the 75 best towns and cities to live in if you’re a college student, released Sept. 7. There was a CIC representative in each "division" (major metros, small cities, mid-size metros, and college towns). In the "college towns" division (areas under 250,000 residents), there were four CIC member university communities cited including State College, Penn.; Iowa City, Iowa; Champaign-Urbana, Ill.; and Bloomington, Ind. The list is put together by the American Institute for Economic Research.
